My Erasmus Experience in Turin – Oriol Lao

Impressions of the Country

Italy struck me as a captivating country with a calm atmosphere. Unlike Spain, it has slightly different schedules that, nevertheless, are easy to adapt to. One remarkable aspect is how communication flows smoothly without many issues. If someone doesn’t understand English and realizes you don’t speak Italian fluently, they tend to rely on gestures and simple words to help mutual understanding, making the communication experience quite fluid.

Trips

We spent time exploring Turin, visiting the MAU Urban Art Museum, which was a particularly enjoyable experience. We also had the chance to spend time at the Tutticonnessi office in Toolbox, the volunteer organization we were supporting. On several nights, we immersed ourselves in the city center, where the local nightlife comes to life. Even though it's lively, it’s worth noting that the night usually ends much earlier than in Spain.

Internship

Primarily, I took part in the refurbishment of laptops as part of the assistance provided to Tutticonnessi, a volunteer organization. The goal of this initiative was to provide refurbished computers to individuals with limited financial resources who needed them. During this process, we created a basic reconditioning protocol intended to be used as a guide for others. This guide, which we developed, is available in English and Spanish.

At the same time, I also worked on various repairs and optimizations of the computers at the Didaxé office, the organization that hosted us and through which we collaborated with Tutticonnessi. Simultaneously, we contributed to the creation and integration of a course using H5P on the Moodle platform, in both English and Italian. Our contribution was meaningful both in integrating the H5P tool with Moodle and in the graphic design of the course presentations.

The Company

My experience at the company was very positive. In the office, we were a group of six people, mostly working in pairs on different projects. Although we didn’t always interact directly on work tasks, communication—both professional and personal—was excellent with all colleagues. This team structure fostered a cooperative dynamic and created a pleasant working environment.
