My Erasmus+ experience at NumOne (Rouen, France)

During June 2026, I completed my Erasmus+ internship at NumOne, an IT, internet, and telecommunications company located in Rouen, France. This stay was a highly valuable opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired during my vocational training program in a real professional environment.

Tasks performed

From the early days, I participated in customer interventions, where I collaborated on the decommissioning of end-of-life servers and the configuration of network services such as DHCP using MikroTik routers. These experiences allowed me to understand the importance of precision in network configuration, as seemingly minor errors—such as an incorrect subnet mask—can have a direct impact on the functioning of the entire infrastructure.

One of the most notable tasks was the installation of fiber optics in a property under renovation. The process required great care: from stripping the protective layers to fusing the fibers with specialized equipment and organizing them inside the PTO (Optical Termination Point). It was a very instructive hands-on experience that is difficult to acquire in a lab environment.

I also worked continuously with Ubiquiti's UniFi ecosystem: firmware updates via SSH, adopting switches and access points into the controller, and identifying devices on the network. As the weeks progressed, I carried out these tasks with increasing autonomy.

Additionally, I performed a factory reset on a WatchGuard Firebox T40, a Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance, and worked on configuring ACLs on a virtual machine running pfSense, learning to manage firewall rules between network interfaces.

Overall learning

Beyond the technical tasks, this stay helped me adapt to unforeseen situations and work in a professional environment in French. It has been a deeply enriching experience that complemented my education in a practical, real-world way.

I evaluate this experience very positively and consider it to have been an essential complement to my technical training.
